IVF #1 CD 5 (headaches)

The weather was great over the weekend and we spent two nights at my in-law's lake house. We had a bonfire, went waterskiing, and spent a lot of time relaxing in the sun and reading. Saturday night we had a friend spend the night and the boys went golfing on Sunday when I went to acupuncture. We went to some awesome fireworks last night that we were able to walk to from our house. I am SO sore from waterskiing, but was able to go for a little while on one ski and take some nice turns. I did a pretty awesome face-plant when I first got going.
I tried to stop drinking coffee this weekend. Saturday was fine, sunday resulted in a headache and a trip to Dunkin Donuts to get a half-caff small iced coffee. Today was the worst. I spent the majority of the day with a HORRIBLE headache and ended up spending a few hours in bed (even after buying a half-caff coffee). I'm not sure giving up coffee is going to happen, but one cup of half-caff a day isn't that bad, right? Any tips or advice about how to give up coffee without horrible headaches?

Everything is going well with the stims and Lupon. My belly is a little bruised, but not too bad. I have definitely been feeling some action in my ovaries.

Ultrasound and blood work tomorrow morning.

  2. I started giving up coffee long before I started on my IVF cycle. I just knew it was going to be tough. I was drinking about a half pot of coffee every morning. At first I went to half caf. I did that for a good 2 or 3 weeks before I started cutting it out all together. When I switched completely to decaf, I did get headaches, which I was surprised. I had gotten down to drinking one or two cups of half caf...how could it possibly be that hard to drop that last little bit of caffeine? Since I started giving up on the caffeine early, I was able to take some good old IB Profen, but I still spent a few days laying on the couch with an ice pack on my head and a migraine. I have been completely caffeine free for a while now, but I just know that after we stop doing IVF, I will never be able to keep this up. I miss my black coffee! I miss that caffeine boost!

  3. I'm glad your cycle is off to a good start! I'm trying not to bruise like I did the last time; so far I've only bruised once in 4 injects.

I wish I could tell you an easy way to get off the caffeine; I seemed to be able to do it for a while by just gradually reducing the amount daily over a week, with assistance from Tylenol. Then my new RE suggested not having more than 2 small cups per day, so I now only have 1 caf and 1 de-caf per day.

The literature seems to point that caffeine isn't the greatest when you are trying to conceive, but it seems like diet caffeinated soda is actually worse than coffee.

  4. I'm right there with you. I weaned myself off for my last injection cycle, but once I got a BFN, I started drinking it again, and now I'm at square one! For what it's worth, I had bad headaches for about 6-7 days, then I was fine. Hang in there!
